MARK BOLER

For US House of Representatives, Texas 26th District

Health Care

Our health care system is broken. Obamacare wasn't the answer.

In a true free-market system, free of government intervention and free of Crony-Capitalism, competition keeps profit margins low. At the same time, it keeps quality very high. Because if it didn't do either one of these things, customers would find a competitor that would do it better and cheaper.

I believe that this fundamental concept works for every sector of the economy, and even for health care. Our health care system has had so much regulation, that neither of these things can occur. Since the 1970s, government regulation has corrupted the free market by passing regulations that stifle competition, favors the larger insurance companies over any possible competitors, forced doctors to perform work that is not needed, and caused pharmaceutical manufacturers to keep prices artificially high. Citizens cannot import cheaper medicines even though they are as pure and safe as ours. The government has kept monopolies in power in the pharmaceutical industries and because of the work of lobbyists, it isn't going to change soon.

The poor will suffer because they will not be able to afford health insurance and companies will either stop offering plans in order to force people on to the public option, or they will pass the cost on to their employees. Co-pays will continue to rise and quality of care will suffer. The FDA will continue its assault on alternative medical treatments like acupuncture, holistic healing and other methods of care. It will continue to pass laws preventing people from growing their own healthy foods and will make natural vitamins against the law unless prescribed by a physician. This will make the cost of simple daily vitamins more costly and less available to the poor.

Please vote Mark Boler for United States Congress, 26th District of Texas on Tuesday November 8, 2016.
